A new year brings new changes. For 2020, massage classes will combine therapeutic touch of reflexology.
So not only will parents learn wonderful techniques of massage, but will have the added benefit of learning reflexology, bringing a fresh element to classes and at no additional cost to the course.
Reflexology is an ancient form of touch, where every area of the body is associated with reflex points on the feet. Gentle pressure is applied to these points to balance the body and reduce a number of conditions.
Massage and reflexology work in perfect harmony, offering similar benefits to calm baby. We already brush over reflex points as we massage baby’s feet, but understanding specific points can give parents more technique and an alternative, to help baby, especially if they don’t want to be massaged at any point. Both techniques can strengthen the bond between parent and baby; reduce discomfort and irritability, anxiety and stress. Ease digestive issues, including colic, reflux, wind and constipation and soothe teething pain and relief for those who have suffered a traumatic birth.
It makes perfect sense to blend both techniques into the same course, giving parents more tools to help soothe their baby. I’ve been teaching massage for over seven years and reflexology for three, I believe in both to really benefit parent and baby, whilst providing an all important activity to help parents adjust to parenthood. Courses are structured to gradually build up massage stokes and touch over the five-week course, to ultimately perform the whole-body massage. Parents are taught massage strokes on specific area of baby’s body as well as the gentle touch on their feet that reflects that specific zone. Many parents have heard about the benefits of massage, with the additional element of reflexology, it provides a unique opportunity to learn about reflexology and its positive effects. The sense of touch is a powerful form of non-verbal communication with baby, this together with songs and rhymes that accompany the strokes brings a strong connection and secure attachment.
The first activity as a parent with baby should be an enjoyable, memorable experience. Appleton Baby Massage classes are small group size and take place in clean and tranquil spaces, running at a home garden studio in Appleton, a unique intimate space with apple free parking.
